Bushfire / Wildfire testing
Ignis Labs are uniquely placed to provide material fire testing
inline with the requirements of the building codes and
reference standards.
- Ignis Labs is developing and enhancing our capacity for bushfire and wildfire testing. Ignis Labs has developed a pilot size test assembly.
- Bushfire testing in Australia is a vital component of the country’s approach to building safety and environmental adaptation, driven by its susceptibility to intense and frequent bushfires. This specialised testing evaluates the resilience and effectiveness of building materials, designs, and construction techniques in withstanding the severe conditions of bushfires, including high temperatures, ember attacks, and prolonged heat exposure. Standards such as AS 3959 have been developed to guide the construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas, specifying requirements that materials and structures must meet to be deemed safe. Testing to satisfy AS 3959 occurs under AS 1530.8 requirements. These rigorous tests help ensure that buildings can better withstand bushfires, ultimately protecting lives and reducing property damage. The development and continuous refinement of bushfire testing protocols are crucial for innovating safer building practices in response to the evolving intensity and frequency of bushfires under changing climate conditions.
